We occupy the Furua/Mwatisi Open Area hunting concession.
Location
The hunting block is within the Ulanga District which is part of the Morogoro Region lying in the Southern Central Part of mainland Tanzania.
It is geographically located between latitude 9º - 10’S and 8º - 5’S longitude and 35º - 50’E and 36º - 20’E bordering Mwatisi Open Area (North) in the South, Ruhudji Open Area in the West Mnyera Open Area and Malinyi in the North and Selous LUI in the East.

Approximately 2,000 sq kms
Elevation
Most of the area lies between 500 – 1,000 meters above sea level.
Accessibility to the Hunting Block
By road :
From Mikumi – Ifakara – Malinyi – Kilosa kwa Mpepo.
By air :
There is an airstrip at Kilosa kwa Mpepo and at Malinyi and from there by road to Kilosa kwa Mpepo and to our base camp along side Mwatisi River.
Topography
Most of the hunting block to the West of Kilosa kwa Mpepo has a mountainous terrain up to the border with Mahenge Open Area in the North and Selous Game Reserve in the South comprising high mountain ranges with sharp escarpments, forests and scattered valleys which have year round water holes at their centres. The area lying between the Ruhudji Kisimia and Mwatisi Rivers is low miombo land with a mixture of plain game and big game. However the animal carrying capacity of area is undetermined.
Habitat and animal species
The area is well drained by the Mwatisi, Pitu, Kisima, Ruhudji and Furua Rivers.
The area lying between Ruhudji, Pitu, Mwatisi Rivers west of Kilosa kwa Mpeopo is an ideal combination of savannah and miombo woodland habitat with typically lowland waterholes and undulating valleys. Thick forests run along the Kisima and Mwatisi Rivers which flow to meet the Ruhudji River.
The spectrum of open pains, dense miombo woodland, forest, savannah woodlands and large valleys and swamps at Itete combine to offer an ideal habitat for species such as Waterbuck, Hartebeest, Lion, Hippo, Crocodile, Leopard and Buffalo, Zebra and Elephant.
